It's always true that the Bible is the greatest authority that we have. Sometimes, however, I find that it can be hard to grasp or understand. Less often the more time I spend in it, but it still can be for many.
However, the Bible still says it best when it comes to all the issues of life if we are willing to listen and work at ensuring we understand what it is saying.
Today's example of the bible saying it best on prayer is James 5. Verses 13-18 is the section we are going to look at. I am just going to hit the highlights below but you can read the whole section through the link above.
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.
Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for hte elders of the church, and let them pray over him...
Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another...
The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Then, the passage shows the example of Elijah and talks about his prayers causing a 3.5 year drought and then his prayers opening the heavens back up for rain again.
Prayer is not only powerful, it is diverse and covers all the aspects of our lives. The power of the God empowering the prayers is the reason for the greatness of the prayers. It wasn't how awesome Elijah was. It was the God he was praying to. And what an amazing thought: we pray to the same God!!
To God be the glory.
