I trust in God

I'm up early today to head out for shoulder surgery. It is planned to be minor surgery with basically no recovery. in fact, as long as I get my shoulder moving tonight or tomorrow, and avoid "frozen shoulder" there shouldn't even be any physical therapy. So, that's the context for my thoughts.

I realized something this morning. When I say "I trust God" there are two ways of meaning this.

The first is like I sometimes tell my teenager. Which is, "I'm making an active choice to trust you and I'm going to see if you are worthy of the trust as we go through the process." Now, some of you know what I'm talking about, right? Those moments with her friends or in regards to homework where we don't double check her and yet we "trust her" to have done what she needs to do.

The other way is like a Heavenly Father who can be trusted to have our best interest at heart. It is an unfailing trust no matter the results.

I realized this morning that I've been doing the "choose to trust" instead of "I know I can trust" form of trust when it comes to this surgery. There are two results that I have been very apprehensive about with this process. There is an option where the rotator cuff needs work and it ends up being more extensive. And another result where it doesn't help my pain and this is a surgery I've pushed for.

But I now know that I can confidently say that I'm not making a conscious choice to trust God in this. I simply trust him because I know He has my best interest at heart and I trust Him. May God be glorified in my life and in our lives!

Amen.
